Digital Video Installation
Two boards are leaned up in the corner hiding a monitor. Therefore on entering the space the viewer is confronted with a beacon of bright light, its source hidden and a beacon of sound. Feelings of curiosity are aroused and the intrigued viewer is inclined to investigate the source of this sound/light. To do so they must manoeuvre their gaze around the boards, they must bend down and the audience is limited to one, at the very most two people. The act of viewing becomes voyeuristic, akin to a peep show perhaps.
The viewer’s role is dynamic, changing from viewer to performer and then returning to viewer.
Feelings of confusion, frustration and alienation are provoked through sound and image, which can hold the attention of the viewer even through discomfort and unease. The viewer is forced to view voyeuristically by the presentation of the work. Whilst the exact response of the viewer cannot be predicted by hiding the work we assume that curiosity will take control of the viewer.
